A public health specialist, also known as a preventive medicine specialist in the United States, is a medical doctor who undergoes additional training in public health after attaining a primary medical qualification; such specialists are often involved in public health campaigns aimed at preventing the spread of communicable and non-communicable diseases. Within these campaigns, which address common human diseases such as COVID-19, measles, or polio, the public health specialist plays a central role in the planning and implementation of protective and preventive measures that are designed to be educational in nature (Sim et al., 2007).
